Sharwanand and Samantha played the lead roles in the Telugu remake of the popular Tamil hit 96. Directed by Tamil filmmaker Prem Kumar, the movie is produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. Govind Vasanth is the music director of the film. The film released today and check out the review of the film here.
Ram (Sharwanand) is an adventurous wildlife photographer. One day he comes back to his hometown and visits his school. He then tells us the story. His first love Jaanu (Samantha) and how he loved her but failed to express his feelings during their schooling. After so many years, Ram meets Jaanu again at a school reunion party. Is Jaanu married by now? Can Ram confess his feelings at least now? What if Jaanu can't reciprocate his feelings? What happens in the end? forms the rest of the story.
Keeping the original version left aside, Sharwanand got a different kind of role this time and we can say that he pulled it off with ease. The way he blended well with the character is too good and he has portrayed all the emotions of the characters really well. Samantha is undoubtedly one of the finest actresses in the industry and she proves the same with her mesmerizing and memorable performance in the movie. The actors who did the younger versions of Samantha and Sharwanand also did their jobs well. Vennela Kishore and Sharanya Pradeep played the sidekicks of the leads and performed really well. Varsha Bollamma appeared in a few scenes. She is pretty and promising in the movie. The rest of the actors also delivered decent performances in the movie.
Except for a few details, nothing much in the storyline which is definitely one of the biggest plus points of this film. The director sure showcased the story in a beautiful way. He has succeeded in recreating all the emotional scenes even in the remake version. Production values by Sri Venkateswara Creations are rich and lavish. Music by Govind Vasantha is superb and is the major highlight of this film. Cinematographer Mahendiran Jayaraju has produced some beautiful and grand visuals for the film. Editing by Praveen KL is decent.
Though most of the scenes are the same from the original version, we can say that the director has recreated the magic with this movie. Especially, the chemistry between Samantha and Sharwanand is truly the major highlight of the film. The first half is light-hearted and the scenes between the lead actors are showcased in a beautiful way. The interval twist is heartbreaking. The second half starts off on an interesting note but and also the emotional scenes will definitely bring tears to the audience. There are no major differences from the original Tamil version. 'Jaanu' is definitely a worth watching love story not only for the fans and even the audience who has already watched '96' can enjoy the film without any doubt.
