NTR Kathanayakudu Review - An engaging roller-coaster ride
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. The name which needs no introduction in the Telugu states. The movie lovers worship him as a legendary actor who can pour life any character on-screen and all the people know him as a beloved leader who worked as the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh. Now, touted to the first part of NTR biopic, NTR Kathanayakudu has finally hit the screens today. Nandamuri Balakrishna, son of NTR essayed the role of his father in the movie under the direction of Krish. With a star cast, the audience has high expectations on the film. Here is the review of the movie.
Showing the things that everyone knows about NTR on the screen is not interesting. But director Krish has showcased NTR's life which is like an open book in a beautiful way. Only a few knows about some things like the relationship between NTR and Basavatarakam, the bond they shared etc. Director Krish tried his best to showcase some vital points like that. The story not only starts with Basavatarakam but continuous in her point of view. The film traces the journey of Sr NTR becoming a hero and then a big star in the industry. How did he take the decision of entering the politics is also shown in this first part.
When it comes to biopics the expectations will be high on the actors who play the lead roles. Balakrishna has not only reached the expectations but went beyond them. His outstanding performance as NTR will make us feel that it was NTR himself on the screen but not Balayya. He has delivered a stupendous performance which will make the audience stick to the chairs throughout the film. His facial expressions, his dialogue delivery, his body language etc are exactly like NTR and he looked like a replica of his father. Vidya Balan also got a vital role in this film and she went under the skin of the character and portrayed it with ease. Her innocent expressions and chemistry with Balayya are very beautiful. Kalyan Ram as Harikrishna did a good job. Sumanth as ANR justified his role. Rana's character comes just before the climax but he carried the role really well. All the other actors who played the cameo appearances like Rakul Preet, Hansika, Naresh, Prakash Raj etc also gave their best performances
Director Krish has again proved that he is a pro in handling complicated scripts. Making biopics is not an easy task because a small mistake will create a big impact on fans. But, the way Krish narrated the script increases the respect on NTR even more. He has done a marvelous job in recreating some scenes and songs from NTR's movies. The production values are top-notch. The cinematography by Gnana Sekhar VS is an absolute delight. His camera angles are pleasant. Editing by Arram Ramakrishna is decent. Music by MM Keeravani will definitely get the extra brownie points. His BGM is awesome and gripping.
On the whole, 'NTR Kathanayakudu' is a memorable tribute to the most celebrated actor NT Rama Rao. Each and every aspect of the career of Telugu cinema’s most famous actor has been shown in a very effective manner. Balakrishna leads from the front and pours life into the character of NTR which made the film quite interesting. As the film is a biopic genre, sometimes we feel the story is at a slow pace but ignore that aspect, 'NTR Kathanayakudu' is an easily connectable film as NTR is a noted personality. With finest performances and amazing technical team, 'NTR Kathanayakudu' is a must-watch film.
