Under the production banner of Sun Pictures, the movie is undoubtedly one of the much awaited Sankranthi releases. Despite having a huge competition at the box office, the makers are confident that the film can score big. Here is the review of the movie.
Kaali (Rajinikanth) is a hostel warden who is always first to solve the problems of the students. He was appointed with an intention that he can control the ragging issues in the hostel. Later, it is revealed that he is hiding his identity and a politician Simhachalam (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is after him. Why did Kaali hide his identity? What happened between Kaali and Simhachalam? Forms the story of the movie.
Rajnikanth delivered a solid performance in the film. He is undoubtedly the show stealer. The fans will definitely enjoy Rajinikanth style of dialogue delivery and his one-liners in the film. Vijay Sethupathi is truly an asset for the film. His outstanding performance is one of the major highlights of the film. Simran looked extremely beautiful in the movie and her chemistry with the Rajinikanth is beautiful. Trisha delivered a mesmerizing performance and also looked gorgeous in the movie. She got a different kind of role in the film and she carried it in a decent way. M Sasikumar's energetic and powerful performance will definitely gain some extra brownie points. Nawazuddin Siddiqui's powerful and energetic performance is too good to watch. Bobby Simha also portrayed his role very well. Yogi Babu, J Mahendran, Guru Somasundaram, Sainath Reddy also delivered the best performances.
The production values of Kalanidhi Maran under Sun Pictures are lavish. Dialogues are well-written dialogues by M Rajshekar Reddy. Especially during the mass episodes, his dialogues click well. Music by Anirudh Ravichander is awesome. Especially, his background music during the action sequences and romantic scenes is outstanding. Editing by Vivek Harshan is decent. Cinematography by Tirru and his camera are superb. The runtime is crisp.
Director Karthik Subbaraj has come up with another interesting film. This story is somewhat similar to the regular commercial entertainers. But, Karthik subbaraj showed his unique style in the execution of the story. Though the first half is fluctuating when in terms of pace, the film is good to watch. The first half of the movie is decent with enough moments that will go well with the audiences. There is hardly any story in the film but the way Rajini's character was etched is interesting. The celebration of Rajinikanth's style, mannerisms, and his performance is everything that the fans look out for and it was delivered in Peta. As said already, the movie completely relies on Rajini’s trademark styles with Karthik's touch to it. The taking and execution are stylish. The visuals are cool and the background score added power to the movie. The movie was mainly made for Rajinikanth fans and hence the director was very clear about the same from the beginning. He and his team were successful in catering to the expectations and requirements of the fans in the first place. Rajini's swag was explored fully in the film which will drive the fans crazy in the theatres. There is nothing so great to talk about but Rajinikanth's presence is enough for us to run through the movie without any hurdles. If you are a fan of Rajini, go for it!
