Super Star Mahesh Babu, the top actor in South Film Industry has been found guilty of not paying the service tax for the period of 2007-08. The Hyderabad GST Commissionerate issued a statement on the same and has also informed that his bank accounts were attached and he will have to pay the penalty.

The press note read, "Attachment of Bank Account pertaining to Film Actor G. Mahesh Babu  Hyderabad GST Commissionerate has attached bank accounts of famous film star Sri. G. Mahesh Babu today. The brief facts of the case are as follows:-Sri Mahesh Babu has not paid Service Tax during the period 2007-08 for the taxable services provided by him as brand ambassador/appearance money/and advertising for promotion of products etc. The total tax due from him was Rs. 18.5 Lakhs. Today the GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis Bank and ICICI Bank for an amount of Rs. 73.5 Lakhs which includes Tax, Interest, and Penalty."
